Subaru EA81 engines are a water cooled horizontally opposed piston engine. The cylinder heads as well as the pistons are water cooled providing uniform cooling even in high outside air temperature condiions. The Foxcon manufactured Reduction drive (2.2:1) reduces the RPM needed by the 72" propeller.

Rotax 912 S series engines are a combination of air cooled & water cooled. The pistons are air cooled the heads are water cooled. The Rotax uses a gearbox to reduce RPM to the prop since the engine will turn 5800 or so vs the 2700 needed by the prop.
